Kranj, Slovenia
About the Host Destination
Kranj is Slovenia’s third-largest city, located halfway between Ljubljana and Bled, and just 9 km from the country’s main airport.
It stands on a rocky promontory between two rivers, the Sava and the Kokra. The Kokra Canyon is the second-largest urban canyon in Europe. In this city, with its 6,000 years of history, striking contrasts come together: modernity blends with tradition, and fresh Alpine air can be felt even in an urban setting. That is why our tourism slogan proudly states:
Kranj – the City with Alpine Air and Urban Flair
The destination has been recognised for its sustainability efforts with the Platinum Label of the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism, as well as the title of European Destination of Excellence 2023.
Kranj is also the guardian of the legacy of Slovenia’s greatest poet, France Prešeren, the author of the Slovenian national anthem.
